DocJax: The Best Search Engine For Documents

3 Comments 18 March 2009

Although you can use Google to perform a document search, but many have turned away from it because it has several downsides. Recently-launched DocJax is one of the coolest search engine I’ve ever seen. Powered by the mighty search engines Google and Yahoo, DocJax allows Internet users to look up documents and e-books on the World Wide Web with ease and download them for free.

By punching in a search query, you can access to tons of documents with the PDF, DOC, XLS and PPT file formats simultaneously. Users can click “Love it” to represent their love towards a particular document or even download the original file. However, according to the folks at DocJax, “You can find and download a tons of document and e-books but please respect the publisher and the author for their creations if their documents were copyrighted.” They push the blame to users who have downloaded protected files but it’s really essential to take precaution if a publisher sues DocJax for allowing users to download their files for free and without their permissions.

The best feature which DocJax offers is the inline viewers that enables you to preview the file in an amazing interface. This is great if you’d want to find out whether the content is useful to you before downloading the full document. To filter you search in various file formats, you can also do so. According to my observations, the documents on the site are mostly in the .PDF format which means that e-books rules the DocJax search engine.

There are also many wonderful features such as the option to “Add Search Extension”, “Tag Cloud” that shows you the popular search queries made by other users and even a “DocJax store” to let you purchase their merchandise to support the search engine financially.

In conclusion, I find that DocJax is pretty impressive especially in the accurate search results and the well-designed interface.
