In a bid to encourage all its stubborn Firefox 3 users to update to version 3.5 of the popular browser, the folks at Mozilla have triggered an automated update offer when people running version 3.0.13 of the browser start it up. There are several choices to choose from after making a decision of whether to upgrade or not. They can choose between accepting the update, postponing it 24 hours or declining it. According to Mozilla, there’s no way that you won’t see the message again if you decline. “We might send you another offer again in the future, but it won’t be for several weeks or months,” the company explains. Those who accept the offer will be immediately upgraded to Firefox 3.5.2, the current version of the edition launched last June.
In short, Mozilla is trying their best to “force” all users of Firefox 3.0 to upgrade to version 3.5 as they intend to phase out support for Firefox 3.0, which will no longer receive security patches after January 2010. Two months ago when Firefox 3.5 was launched, users can either download the new and faster version from the Mozilla website or manually triggering “Check for updates” under the Help menu.
Last year in June, Mozilla had also prepped a Firefox 3.0 auto update for users running version 2.0.0.16.
