Songbird is a free and open-source music player designed to replace iTunes. Unlike iTunes, however, it’s completely cross-platform compatible. Imagine it as a revolutionary new program like Firefox, that allows users to change “feathers”, install add-ons, browse the web, and add to their mp3 player while listening to web radio.
It’s powered by the Gecko rendering engine, that harnesses the power of Mozilla’s fantastic Firefox.

If you have an Internet connection, Songbird shows a biography, news, photos, videos and upcoming concert dates of the artists that you’re listening to.
It also has a mini-player mode, resembling WinAmp’s compact mode.

All in all, Songbird is a powerful, free music player, and a great alternative to iTunes.
It’s also one of my favorite applications.

HAVE TO DISAGREE. SONGBIRD WOUNDED ON A WING. PERHAPS HAS SOME FUTURE POTENTIAL. FOR ME CRASHES ALL THE TIME, WELL NOT MUCH,BECAUSE IT DOES THAT, AND I WON'T USE IT.
INTERFACE IS CONVOLUTED AND CONFUSING. UNABLE TO SYNC TO WIRELESS ROUTER, JUST USEFUL STUFF TO ENABLE MUSIC TO BE ENJOYED.
True! Its buggy, always crashes, no matter on what OS I use. They still got a lot of work to do, besides iTunes have iTunes Store which Songbird will never have. Though iTunes may be resource hungry, but its stable so far

I run Songbird on Kubuntu Linux, and it's never crashed. It seems much better than iTunes, at least to me.
