The Worst Logo Design of 2009: Bing!

According to the folks at UnderConsideration, the worst logo design of 2009 is Microsoft’s new search engine – Bing. But it isn’t just them who HATE the design of the logo. When the logo was first released in May 2009, many people claimed that the logo is “butt ugly”, “outdated” and “amateurish”. And guess what – the logo is actually designed by Razorfish, one of the world’s largest interactive agencies acquired by Microsoft in 2007 for $6 billion!

Negative responses made by Typography fans on the Typophile forums:

Ed_Aranda: “Initial impression: Seems outdated already (might have been trendy a few years ago). Letter n looks bloated. I don’t like it.”

apankrat: “This is not just bad. It is butt ugly. I’d be ashamed if someone walked on me using a site with this kaka on it :)

sanideos: “Why on earth did they decide to name it “bing” in the first place? And they did. The logo is just terrible.”

In my personal opinion, the logo seems so-so. The design is neither outstanding nor stupendously grim. But what I dislike is its name Bing. It just sounds too weird and awful. In Chinese, Bing can mean several things – Chinese flatbread or disease. Disease? Yes! Couldn’t Microsoft come up with a better and much more meaningful name?

6 Billion. The most expensive logo in history. At that cost, who cares if everyone hates it.
Seriously, it aint fantastic. But then neither is Google, and look at that brand today. Maybe they know something that we don't.
    Still don't like it though

someone sold them on the idea they could make “bing” a phrase word like “bing it” instead of “google it” I'm sure.

after they were planted in our brains- no competitor was able to to capture the spirit of “xerox it” or
“scotch tape” . what is the right word for scotch tape anyway? We don't her “yahoo it” or “dogpile it” for the same reasons we won't hear “bing it”.

Bing IS a disease (well, it makes me sick to just hear the word 'bing' so I'm assuming it's dangerous)

Yeah I know, was being facetious. Paying 6 Bill for a design company, you would think that they had bout something that could come up with a better logo.

The logo is very simple. That means simplicity is becoming expensive. Take note Graphic Designers.

It's that stupid orange dot over the `i` that looks terrible.
Why make it a different color, anyway?

Microsoft….lame and stupid as always. Yet, we're still using it. When will we be getting a Mac? I mean we have iPhone and iPods already. Screw up…

    WHY IS IT STRETCHED HORIZONTALLY?
Firt time saw the logo after signing out hotmail, I thought my IE got hacked because it kept bringing me to Bing default page, after research I was released to know it’s just Microsoft’s new engine, but that logo just scared the heck out of me LOL
