Google.cn Closes, Redirects to Google.com.hk
Posted on March 22, 2010 | No CommentsThis morning (GMT+8), when I attempted to visit Google.cn, I was redirected to Google.com.hk (Google Hong Kong) instead. The page displays a sentence: "Welcome to the new home of Google in China". I've no idea whether the Chinese people can access this website. As announced by Google, Google.com.hk will provide Google Search services in Simplified Chinese without filtering any content, and the sales revenue of Google China will be dependent on the government's decision about this Hong Kong-based website. -
How China Is Playing Catchup With International Companies
Posted on March 21, 2010 | No CommentsI live in Singapore, which is about 2,800 miles (4,500 km) from China. Yet, many of us still use Baidu. No, not for searching the web. Instead, practically every pirate is using it to find pirated chinese songs with Baidu. A search engine famous for piracy? If it was in the west, I think the owners would have been sued to death by now. As much as anyone can deny it, China is playing catchup with the newest programs out in the world. And the slightly weaker websites/programs still survive because of the sheer amount of people. Foreign websites may blocked in an moment's notice, and the domestic duplicates won't. Thus, creating an situation where people are using the backwater sites/programs. With the amount of traffic and foreign (often good) ideas out of the picture, this websites and programs don't really advance. -
Command & Conquer 4 Review
Posted on March 20, 2010 | No CommentsTaking huge steps away from what made the series so popular, EA decided to remove resource management and base building, leaving only a single deployable unit called a "Crawler" which can build units. There is no Tiberium to harvest -- your Crawler just makes units out of thin air. The defining gameplay of Command and Conquer had been changed radically. The focus had turned to "domination", where players try to capture key positions on maps -- exactly like Modern Warfare 2.While a smart move to attract the first person shooter crowd, the game lost the a lot of its strategic choices. There is no way of harassing the enemy's economy -- you just send your crawler to the capture point most in threat and fight him there face to face. -
The Best Google Street View Image, Ever!
Posted on March 17, 2010 | No CommentsI personally think that this is the best Google Street View capture ever, even much better than the "Old Dude Caught Picking Up Prostitues". Well, is this beautiful white bird, which resembles the seagulls in Pixar's Finding Nemo, heading for KFC? You can view the original street view image over at Google. -

Ultimate iPhone [VIDEO]
Posted on March 14, 2010 | No CommentsAs always we had high hopes (and still do that) Apple could come out with a revolutionary iPad. Instead, they came out with a woman's cosmetic product. I can't help but feel sorry for them. I was on YouTube and came across a video made in 2008 of what, back then, was expected of the upcoming iPhone 3Gs. It actually is an amazing video (great animation) of pretty much, not any type of iPhone we are going to get in the next year (probably, let's hope not, more). It seems to be the ultimate phone around. Okay, that's an understatement. The current iPhone is supposed to be the ultimate phone, problem is there isn't a better word than 'ultimate in the dictionary :(. -
Twitter Adds Own Shortener Twt.tl To Combat Spam
Posted on March 10, 2010 | No Comments
In an effort to combat phishing and spam, which has been an unsolved issue for Twitter for the past years, the micro-blogging platform yesterday said in a blog post that they have rolled out its own URL shortener called Twt.tl to protect users that strikes a major blow against phishing and other deceitful attacks.
Today, we’re launching a new service to protect users that strikes a major blow against phishing and other deceitful attacks. By routing all links submitted to Twitter through this new service, we can detect, intercept, and prevent the spread of bad links across all of Twitter. Even if a bad link is already sent out in an email notification and somebody clicks on it, we'll be able keep that user safe.
