Posted on February 3, 2010 | No Comments
Today, Verizon announced is going to release the Motorola Devour in March, yet another Android alternative. With the lack of 2.1 and multi-touch can this phone beat the Nexus One, of course not. The Nexus One is the Android phone to get right now, but Devour is a great alternative.

How to Tether on Android
Posted on January 30, 2010 | No Comments
If you have read my posts before you have probably noticed how I always rave about Android's application market. This thing really dominates. I found a cool application today called "PDA Net". PDA Net allows you to tether on your Android phone.
PDA Net offers a free and paid version. The free version doesn't allow you to visit sites with a https:// address. So really, if you are not logged in to your Youtube, for instance, you will not be able to log in while on PDA Net. You should keep signed in before you board the plane or leave the house just so you won't run into problems. The paid version lets you browse the net without any limitations.
PDA Net is really simple to install. It requires you to install an application on your Android phone (find on the market place) and one on your computer. It will ask you to go into your phone's settings to check a box off, having to do with USB Defragging. After that you will connect your phone, open the Android application and you will be connected to the internet.

CES: Motorola’s Press Conference
Posted on January 6, 2010 | No Comments
Today at CES (Consumer Electronics Show), Motorola held a pretty short press conference, but gave some good information.
Every Android device out will soon be getting a firmware update to Android 2.1. Android 2.1 will be what is on the Nexus One, and it looks pretty cool. The update will include Flash. Flash will work amazing on these phones, in my opinion. There was talk about new Android phones released in China, he didn't really go into detail.

CES: AT&T’s Press Conference
Posted on January 6, 2010 | No Comments
Today at CES (Consumer Electronics Show) AT&T talked about 7 new smartphones. They include WebOS and Android.
Engadget was blogging live during the AT&T press conference. It seemed like they got the message HTC, Dell, and Palm didn't want to talk about the specifics of each device.
Dell released its first smart phone today. It is called the Mini 3 and it will be running Android. The phone will be coming is the first half of 2010, according to Dell's blog. The Mini 3 has already been released in both Brazil and China. Also, AT&T is talking about releasing four more, but never went into detail in the press conference.

The “iSlate” Has a Competitor! Does It Really Matter?
Posted on January 5, 2010 | No Comments
The days leading up to CES (Consumer Electronics Show) are always filled with tons of rumors. We have heard rumors of the new Apple "iSlate", Google's Chrome OS Tablet, Dell Streak, and a rumor just released, a new HTC tablet. The tablet is rumored to have multi-touch, a 1 GHZ Snapdragon chipset, and run Android. It is obviously something to compete with whatever Apple is thinking up. With all of these tablet rumors it has really got me thinking, do we really need a tablet?

Google Press Conference: Nexus One Released
Posted on January 5, 2010 | No Comments
The Nexus One is said to be the fastest Android phone out there to date. Featuring great hardware and new Android software.
The phone is available on Tmobile right now. It will soon be available on Verizon and Vodaphone (Europe). Google will be selling two versions of the device themselves. One of the versions costing (unsubsidized) $529.00. The unsubsidized version is said to work on any network except AT&T's 3G, but you can still connect to their Edge network. The subsidized version, or the $179.00 version, will be available on Tmobile's network. To use the subsidized version you have to pay for Tmobile's Nexus One specific plan. The plan entitles you to 500 talk, unlimited Tmobile to Tmobile, unlimited text and web. The plan will cost $79.99. Some Tmobile customers will be availible for upgrade pricing.

If you keep up with my posts on TechXav you have probably noticed my unhealthy obsession with Google and Android. Really, the main thing I do on this network is Google, and Android to be specific. I am the only one who has an Android phone (I think). It would only make sense to tell you what applications I have on my Droid Eris, Android 1.5. This list doesn't include the pre-installed applications, like Amazon MP3. All below are free.
