I have been wanting to check out Android for so long now, and I finally get my chance.

I have been reading online for months now that Android is an iPhone killer, well hell yeah it is. I would really love someone to argue with me, because your not going to win. The HTC Droid Eris can do everything the iPhone can do, but better.

Right from the start up, I could tell Android was really trying to push me into becoming social. When I was setting up my phone, I was encouraged to enter in my Twitter, Facebook, and Flickr account. The Flickr account is used for the camera album. I can easily upload pictures to share with my friends and family. The Twitter account is for one of the Sense UI panes. The Facebook account is integrated to let me give out my contact information and of course, browse it.

There are quite a number of solutions out there that helps to lock the screen periodically. However, none of them are as useful as Airlock, touted as "your Mac's new Chief of Security". <a href="http://themha.com/airlock/"target="_blank">AirLock</a> is a preference pane for Mac that automatically locks your Mac when you leave, and unlocks it using your iPhone or iPod Touch when you come back. It works something like those cars equipped with an intelligent system that automatically unlocks the car doors, and allows the engine to be started once the key is brought inside the car when it senses that the correct key is nearby.

As the saying goes: "If you can’t beat them, join them." In a bid to stay competitive, Microsoft's mobile team has finally made an iPhone and iPod Touch app for Bing. The app is now available and you can download it from the <a href="http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/bing/id345323231?mt=8"target="_blank">Apple iTunes app store</a> or by pointing your iPhone browser to m.bing.com, which will redirect you to the app store.

The free app comes in a simple but pretty impressive interface, and it looks similar to its web version, which features beautiful landscape photos on the home screen. It even comes complete with clickable hotspots to discover related trivia. By default, there are six categories on the center of the page: Images, Movies, Maps, Businesses, News and Directions. When you search for "coffee" under the the "businesses" tab, the app will display the best coffee house near you, including a scorecard which shows you how good the place is.

Recently, the Motorola Droid was released. The Droid is said to be the best Android phone released to date. I certainly agree.

The iPhone is getting so boring! We have been using the same iPhone software for 3 years, and for two years, the same applications. If Apple does not start adding new features and a new UI (user interface) we will see other phones come on top, like the Droid.
Apple is just to strict. They don't allow the good applications on the App Store! Even developers are moving on to the Android platform, just because of flexibility and the little amount of restrictions, the developers want.

It seems that Microsoft's Windows Mobile platform isn't doing well in the lucrative and ever-growing smartphone market whereas the iPhone, RIM and Android operating systems are up to par. According to <a href="http://news.zdnet.co.uk/communications/0,1000000085,39877964,00.htm" target="_blank">figures released by Gartner last month</a>, Microsoft's mobile operating system had 11 percent of the global smartphone market in Q3 2008. A year later, it had 7.9 percent of the market, while the iPhone's share had risen from 12.9 percent to 17.1 percent, and RIM's share had risen from 16 percent to 20.8 percent.
